Dracula Free Writing Response

Kacie Hamai's Journal
19 February 2:08pm.-- I recently began reading this book called Dracula. I must say that this book is particularly interesting, and I'm excited to continue. The way the book is written has definitely captured my attention. The book presents readers with journal entries or letters that tell readers various stories from the perspectives of several different characters. I have only read a couple other books that use this type of style. It definitely helps in creating a sense of suspense and horror. The first four chapters were comprised of Jonathan Harker's Journal entries. These entries were probably the most suspenseful part of the book so far. I read of Jonathan's travels to Transylvania and of the frightening things that happened to him while he was there. I must say that Dracula is a most horrifying creature! I couldn't help but fear for poor Jonathan as he found himself trapped inside of Dracula's castle! Chapter 5&6 consisted of a series of letters from Miss Mina Murray, Jonathan's fiancĂ©e, to Miss Lucy Westenra as well as some of Lucy's journal entries. I really enjoyed learning about the Mina that Jonathan kept on mentioning in his journal entries. She seems like such a nice girl, but I fear that she won't be able to see Jonathan ever again. Her friend, Lucy, seems like she'll become a much bigger part of the story in future chapters. I think that her sleepwalking habits definitely seem like something that should be the cause of worry. Overall, I've really enjoyed this book so far, and Stoker has left me craving for more. I personally enjoy reading this book at night and letting the atmosphere intensify even further. I'm looking forward to whatever Stoker has prepared for me as I read on!
